The Shakespeare Project:
This project was about William Shakespeare. I wrote a essay about the authority figure in Midsummer Nights Dream. My role in this play was sound and I was the lion in the play inside and play. I pick sound because I was the main idea that stood out the me.
I connected to this project because I have an interest in Shakespeare and how he writes his play. I really enjoyed working the sound with my friend Mark. That was one of my favorite part in this project. But my favorite part in this play was doing to actual play.
This project was difficult because sound had to be perfect and on que. At the actual play they decided to put a black table cloth in front of us and it was hard to see out so some of the timing was off with the sound.
What I learned in this project was about Shakespeare and his plays and how hard it can be to read his plays. As one of the actor in this play it was harder to mesmerize this type of writing stile. How I learned to use that I would go on to shakespeare.com and read in the non Shakespearean and then after a wile I would read it form my script.
Shakespeare is on of the most interesting language that history has had over the years. I think the reson why we still teach Shakespeare is because it is very har to teach but harder to learn and doing one of his play would be the easiest way to learn Shakespeare .

Final Essay:
Figures of Authority and How They Rule Their Subjects
By Jason C
In a Midsummer Night's Dream the authority figures of Theseus and Oberon rule their subjects in similar and different ways. In this essay I will be writing about the power of Oberon and Theseus and how they rule their subject’s lives. Their rulings reflect how they solve problems and they have some differences in how they do this Theseus approaches problems with his mind and Oberon act on his instincts. But they are similar because they use their authority to oppress.Their authority is also used to try to suppress the women in their lives. Shakespeare uses this play to show how the decisions and power of rulers, and men impact everyone in society for good and bad.
One example of conflict of authority over the desires of the citizens is at the beginning of the play between Egeus and Hermia. Egeus has right as a father to “Exile her” or kill his daughter because she doesn't agree with his choice on who she gets to marry. They seek out the duke Theseus to help resolve their problems. He says, “Rather your eyes must with his judgment look. Know of your youth, examine well your blood, Whether, if you yield not to your father’s choice, You can endure the endure the livery of a nun”. (Act 1,Scene 1)In this scene Theseus uses his authority and compassion. He talks and listens to both of them and convinces them to take a calmer route in their conflict. How ever he forces Hermia to marry Demetrius so she is still controlled by a man that she does not love. Sadly she still feels frustrated by the oppression of her father and the men around her and she runs away. This is one of the examples of the oppression of women in Shakespeare's play and a reflection of their role in society.
Oberon likes to use his power over people who serve him in different ways and unlike Theseus he isn't as serious all the time. Oberon’s power sometimes makes him an unkind ruler, and he sometimes humiliates to oppress people and to get his way, but he also likes a good laugh. His servant is the mischievous Puck who he uses to do some his work helping the young lovers. Sometimes this might backfire, for example Puck, who works for Oberon, got the lovers mixed up because he is a servant to oberon probably didn’t want to ask Oberon to tell him exactly who to put the potions to because he is a servant. But potentially he also really likes a good laugh. He feels it is his duty ‘jest to Oberon and make him smile”. (Act 2, scene 1)
Oberon is very demanding and wields his power the most with his wife Titania. This has many consequences. Firstly, Oberon and Titania are the king and queen of the fairies who rule nature. When they argue about her giving up her Indian Prince that she captured nature is a mess and there have been intense winds rains and flooding in the forest. “This progeny of evils comes from our debate, from our dissension.” (act 2 scene 1) Oberon knows that he needs to fix his marriage so his kingdom will be in order. Secondly, he loves Titania but he wants her to pay some kind of price for her stubbornness to not give up her foster child. He is on a major power trip here. Oberon tries to control his wife by giving her a potion to fall in love with the first ugly thing she sees when she wakes up. When he puts the juice on her, he says, “When thou wakest, it is thy dear: Wake when some vile thing is near.” ( Act 2, Scene 2). Oberon thinks he can use his power to suppress his wife and she will do what he asks. But he is wrong. She is a queen and she will not give up. She will not compromise herself and she tells Oberon to stop being jealous of the boy and let it go.
The relationship between men and women is similar in both the mortal world and the fairy world. Both Theseus and Oberon attempted to use their authority to control women.Theseus has order and stability in his upcoming marriage and life. But this came at a cost, because even though Theseus and Hippolyta are happy together he actually won her in a fierce battle. This means that he now dominates his wife, Hippolyta. Even though at the end Oberon and Titania are happy, the women in this play are basically told what to to by the men and they are okay with it. “We cannot fight for love, as men may do; we should be wooed and were not made to woo. I’ll follow thee and make a heaven of hell, to die upon the hand I love so well.” (Act 2, Scene 1). She is saying that she cannot chase the love she wants because she is a woman. She will make do with what she is given and make herself love him.
In conclusion, the authority figures of theseus and Oberon wield their power over the people in their lives in similar and different ways. Both Oberon and Theseus value their relationship with their wives, but paradoxically, they also repress them. How they solve problems is different, because one is mortal and has to talk it out, but the other is a fairy King and can use magic. The relationship between men and women is similar in both the mortal world and the fairy world in that women do not have a powerful role. Overall, this shows that this shows that every citizen, male or female, human or fairy, has to abide by the oppression of the rulers.
Brave New World:
Artist Statement:
Brave New World is a dystopian novel. Earlier in the scene is when the ceremony begins right before the whipping of the man on the reservation. Running, a man went to fetch a chest full of black snakes. As he raced back he quickly threw the into the pit. Slowly a man dressed in a coyote hat holding a leather whip approaches the other man. People dancing gathered around to watch, the strong coyote man started to whip the younger man. Once, twice, then a long pause quickly he lifted the whip to his head again and whipped him so fast it was hard to keep count. He stopped whipping the young man could barely stand finally he fell on his face unconsciou.
As the author I think that the most interesting part of our graphic novel is panel numbers eight and nine. I think this because it is nicely laid out and it has a nice sense of flow. In panel eight it shows the part when the guy is being whipped repeatedly. In the drawing it show the coyote man and what he is wearing close up. You can tell by his facial expression that he is angry, by the glare he portrays. In panel nine its shows the young guy tied to a pillar, on his back you can see where he was whipped by the blood dripping down his back like a stream. This disgusted Bernard as well, but he held back and didn’t show how he felt.
As the author I learned how to write better and use punctuation. Before this project I forgot what a comma splice was and where to put them and what a coma slice it. As the artist I learned that when making a graphic novel that there are different shapes of panels that you can make. These can show flow throughout the novel. Also there are two different types of speech bubbles, that at first I didn’t know about and that they both have different purposes. The first kind of speech bubble is supposed to be made into a box with all straight lines, this box shows the dialogue and what the character is saying out loud. The second kind of speech bubble is supposed to be in the shape of a cloud, above the head of the character. This shows what the character is thinking to themselves. This really helped me to build my graphic novel because it was clear on how to make the scene make since and flow in a beautiful way.
Character Analysis Self-Assessment:
- What do you think is the strongest element of your paper? (concessive thesis, NPA, use of semi-colons, use of evidence, etc)
- What do you think is the most beautifully worded sentence you wrote, and why?
- How did the grammar lessons help you structure your writing more clearly? Be specific. If not, what other ideas or lessons might have helped you more?
- What overall grade do you think you should get for each of the following elements? Use a letter grade. Be specific and explain why.
- Introduction: I think I should get a B because I did a good job and met my smart goal by revising my sentences and having good evidence.
- First body paragraph: I think I should get a B+. What I did to deserve a B because added evidence I reified my work and
- Second body paragraph: I think I deserve a B on my second body paragraph. What I did in my second body paragraph is that I revised it by reading it over and fixing grammar errors.
- Conclusion: For the conclusion I think I should get an A+. It’s my best paragraph with evidence from other of my paragraphs.
- Overall, what grade should your paper receive? Why? Be honest with -yourself.
I think I sould get a 29 because I refined my pepper.
Smart Goal:
Jason Clark
My smart goal is to have refinement in my work. How I will complete that by checking my work before I turn it in. I want to say that when my work is all refined that it will be a 9 out of 10 so that way I can be proud off my work.

Socialization project-
What is socialization and how does it affect your life and our society?
|
As We Live
Jason Clark On the night of February 26, 2012, at 7:16 pm in Sanford, Florida. An African-America teenager named Trayvon Martin was shot and killed. My essay is about socialization in regards to gender, race, and wealth. What makes this topic important to me is that my gender as a man will get me farther in this world than a woman. My race as a Caucasian male means I will be less judged and I have many opportunities to become successful. My metaphor it like a journey from one place to another. Socialization in my words is when society is split into groups by racial judgment, wealth, and gender. Without socialization we would not be human. We would probably be like a bunch of animals running around without structure. Sadly when we judge people our socialization falls apart a little bit because we might end up segregating instead of making interesting socialized groups. Racial judgment in socialization happens for example, in society we judge African-Americans more than Caucasian people and they get segregated. For example, “studies show that police are more likely to pull over and frisk blacks or Latinos than whites.” (https://www.dosomething.org/facts/11-facts-about-racial-discrimination) Wealth judgment happens not as often as racial judgment. Wealth judgment prevents some groups of people who have no money to get what they need for example. They have to shop where food is low quality and has lots of sugar and fat. They might feel bad about themselves. I have seen the impacts of socialization on the status of my gender, race, and wealth. GENDER Historically men have had more rights than women and still today. Men still have more advantages then women For an example ”Women were not a loud to vote until the year 1914” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism_in_the_United_States). Usually, but not in all cases men get paid more than women in their careers. Also, men are less judged. Men are less judge with their appearance. For example, women have pressure to be beautiful and skinny for an example the real life Barbie Dall has trance formed her self to look skinny and look like what she does. Here is a link to a youtube video that talks about the real life Barbie Dall (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHqmQrITGpY). Boys are less sexualized. Boys don’t have to worry about look and what people say. As a male I am less frequently exposed to sexual harassment by my other coworkers unlike a female where she would be more frequently exposed to sexual harassment. More of my bosses would be upper males in high society that could get me more promotions at my job but also a better record for a future job. In the article by Richard Jeffery Newman on his blog about male privilege, (https:/Amptoon.com) it says I have the privilege of being unaware of my male privileges. As a male I wouldn’t necessarily think about how my gender affect my privileges in life, if I didn’t have this project to write. RACE I have been positively socialized by my racial color, white. My color has helped me and will help me in life because in the video that we watched in class a white person is less jugged then an African-American is. For example, for the same petty crime, like stealing a bike, the African American person is thought of immediately as a criminal. However, when a white person attempts the same crime, society gives them a break. Doesn’t call the cops or anything. I have been negatively socialized by my racial color. By what my race has done to other races I feel ashamed. When a white cop shot an 18 year old unarmed kid named Michael Brown. The killing happened on August 6th, 2014. Everyone was in shock that a cop would do that. However there was a bigger problem, racial judgment. People think he shot the kid because he assumed that Michael was black and so he was dangerous. This makes me upset as a white male because the socialization between blacks and whites is not getting better. WEALTH Socialization is affected by economy and wealth. In a good economy there are lots of jobs and money flowing between people and trades. Big groups of families are supported in new companies so new ideas and industry. Overall people are happy and content and some may be helpful to other people. In a poor economy. There are very few jobs and not a lot of trade. People have to separate to look for work. People fall into poverty. There is probably a divide between wealthy people and poor people. Wealthy people look down on poor people and judge that badly. Conclusion I have seen the impacts of socialization on the status of my gender, race, and wealth. My metaphor it like a journey from one place to another. Race, Gender, Wealth is in society because of that is who we are in life. In society we will always judge people. As a coaction male in society I am less judge as an African-American in society. As a male I am more likely to be much higher in life and more seen as a successful young adult. How do you think we can fix Racal, Gender, and wealth judgment in society?
