LINK Internship
Link Description:
Animas High School offers a unique program to their juniors. Leading Internships for New Knowledge(Link) sends juniors on three week internships in the field of their choice. During LINK, students have no regular classes as they spend 30-40 hours a week with mentors in the workplace, learning how to apply their skills outside the classroom. The LINK program is an integral piece of the Animas High school curriculum in Durango, Colorado, as it exemplifies our belief in the value of student-centered, personalized instruction that connects learning to the adult world. LINK takes students beyond the classroom walls in order to clarify personal, college and career goals while teaching invaluable professional skills and life lessons. Business Description: My LINK was with an American Airlines Pilot. American Airlines is a part of the Oneworld alliance is a group of the world’s leading airlines; committed to providing the highest level of service and comfort to frequent international travelers. Throughout my link I looked at colleges to pursue my career choice in the aviation industry. The college that interested me the most was the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences, University of North Dakota (UND) Aerospace Foundation and Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) have a long term partnership that offers a two-year degree program at CGCC with the option to continue flight training and receive a 4 year aviation degree at the University of North Dakota. This program combines CGCC's unmatched expertise in providing a dynamic learning community and UND's international reputation of excellence in aerospace education. LINK Anticipation and Preparation: Finding my LINK internship wasn’t too challenging. At the start of the year I thought about my career choice and the thing that came to mind was flying. I have alway wanted to become a pilot. The thing that helped me out was that was that my dad is a pilot. So I ask him to be my mentor and help me succeed on my intership. However I did contact someone before my dad. I contacted the person that is in charge of the UND center in Phoenix Az. They ended up saying no because he couldn’t get a yes from his supervisor at the main campus in North Dakota. I choose to do this LINK because of how passionate I am about flying and it is the career that I want to pursue. I gained information on how become a pilot and the steps to take. What I hope to bring to the company is an open mind and to be ready to learn new things to become successful. The mark I hope to leave at my internship is a way to be a successful pilot. By getting the right amount of hours to fly and to get hired also to learn everything about the aircraft I’ll fly and also to know the procedures. |
